How to read a deck location
A location like 283-C3 means strip 283, chip 3 — find strip 283 in the ColorSnap® fan deck and count down to the third chip. Historic and specialty colors that Sherwin-Williams publishes without a deck location show "No deck location", and Emerald Designer Edition colors are marked "Not in ColorSnap deck" because they ship in their own deck.
How to read the undertone
Undertone is the quiet color underneath the obvious one — the reason two beiges that look identical on a chip can read pink and green side by side on a wall. We name the direction each color leans, and whether it reads warm or cool.
Undertones here are calculated from each color's digital values, so treat them as a guide rather than a verdict. Light changes everything: a north-facing room cools a color, Florida afternoon sun warms it, and flooring or a tile roof bounces its own color back onto the wall. Always confirm with a sample on the actual surface.
